Ohio United Methodists Mobilize to Address Food Insecurity Amid Federal Shutdown

As the federal shutdown threatened to delay or suspend SNAP benefits, communities across Ohio were facing a growing crisis of food insecurity. In response, the Ohio Episcopal Area called on all United Methodists in the state to unite in action and compassion.

Zoom gatherings were scheduled to bring together clergy and lay leaders from local churches. These virtual meetings were designed to:

  1. Learn what churches are already doing to support food-insecure families.
  2. Explore opportunities for collaboration and mobilization.
  3. Coordinate how the conference can provide support and resources.

This grassroots initiative is built on the strength of our connection in response to the urgency of the moment. It’s more than a call to prayer – it’s a call to action.
