Fresh Expressions in Our District

Fresh Expressions are transforming the way churches cultivate community, build relationships, and join God’s work beyond the walls of the church building. A Fresh Expression is a form of church that emerges primarily for people who are not currently connected to a traditional congregation, taking shape in everyday places and growing through genuine relationships.

Fresh Expressions begin with listening, loving, and serving - not with a program or a pre-set model. They often form in “third spaces” like coffee shops, gyms, parks, neighborhoods, hobby groups, or dinner tables. The activity is never the point; the relationships and the faith conversations that emerge naturally are what matter most.

Fresh Expressions reach people who are spiritually open but institutionally closed, people who may long for belonging, meaning, and authentic community even if they never walk through a sanctuary door. These expressions of church remind us that God is already at work all around us and invite us to join in.

Whether you’re a pioneer, a person of peace, a permission-giver, or someone who simply wants to support new ways of reaching your community, anyone can participate in starting a Fresh Expression. And it’s okay to experiment, learn, adapt, and even fail because faithfulness looks like showing up where God is stirring something new.
