Rooted & Reaching: Discipleship That Connects Us to God and Renews the Church

In this workshop, we’ll explore simple, transformative small group model of discipleship that works in any context. These groups help us grow deeper in our walk with God (rooted) and extend our reach to new people and communities. Together, we’ll discover how relationships formed in small groups with God and with each other can renew our churches, strengthen our faith, and bring fresh hope for the future.

Lead by Rev. Beth Ortiz (Executive Director of Discipleship)

UMC in the World

The first aspect of the Social Principles is that they are rooted in wider documents that affirm there are some “rights” that transcend state/national laws. But also, The Social Principles themselves are reported IN the Book of Discipline, clearly intended to be more than a “reference.” Moreover they emerge not merely from the whim of a few people, but as a commitment to “principles”…eg., such that from our human behaviors, rights, and law, emerge: they were “conceived and given ‘life’”because of what humans saw as harm, disparities, unhealthy actions, behaviors, or rules that divided, and disrupted the harmonious social fabric.
