Linworth UMC is seeking a part-time organist, approximately 10 hours/week with a compensation: $25 - $35 per hour (approx. $13,000 - $18,200 per year).

Music is woven into the life of this congregation. Our traditional worship service features the Chancel Choir, pipe organ, and a rich repertoire of hymns and choral music spanning centuries. The person who joins our music staff will find an engaged, loyal community that shows up week after week and genuinely loves to sing.

The Organist will serve as a skilled musical partner in LUMC’s traditional worship service, providing organ and piano accompaniment for the Chancel Choir, soloists, and congregational song.


Position Summary
Working closely with the Director of Music for Traditional Services and pastoral staff, the Organist contributes to the selection of service music and ensures musical continuity across rehearsals and worship. This role calls for a skilled keyboardist who is comfortable in a collaborative, liturgically-grounded environment.


Qualifications
Skilled musician on pipe organ and piano; ability to improvise in a variety of liturgical and choral contexts
Advanced keyboard training helpful but not required if commensurate experience is demonstrated
Experience playing in worship settings helpful but not required
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a music and ministry team
Bachelor’s degree in music performance or equivalent experience helpful but not required

Key Responsibilities
Play organ and/or piano at Sunday traditional worship services and other special services.
Accompany the Chancel Choir at weekly evening rehearsals and at additional rehearsals for special presentations, as requested by the Director of Music with reasonable prior notice.
Participate in the selection of service music with the Director of Music and pastoral staff; hymns will be selected in consultation with the preaching pastor.
Process requests for the purchase of special music in coordination with the Director of Music.
Meet regularly with the Director of Music to coordinate music for upcoming services and special events.
Attend staff meetings as requested.
Notify the Director of Music when the church organ or pianos need tuning or repair.
Arrange a qualified substitute when ill or on vacation; notify the Director of Music in advance and ensure the substitute has access to the instrument for practice.
Play for weddings and memorial services with reasonable prior notice. Compensation for weddings is provided by the requesting party; compensation for funerals may vary based on the family’s circumstances.
