West Ohio Models Sustainability Efforts at Annual Conference

West Ohio is working to reduce waste and promote sustainability efforts at this year’s Annual Conference session. As part of West Ohio’s recent emphasis on Creation Care, the Annual Conference Planning Team eagerly embraced the initiative this year and in years to come. “Anytime you get 1,000 people together in one place, you have the potential for a lot of waste,” says Mariellyn Grace, West Ohio’s Conference Caretaker of God’s Creation Coordinator. “This year, we’re trying to reduce waste, encourage recycling and composting, and educate members on why it’s important to care for God’s creation.” If you will be attending this year’s Annual Conference session, look for these sustainability efforts:

  • Recycling bins (to reduce trash going to the landfill!)
  • Composting bins (to reduce food waste!)
  • Water bubblers (to refill your reusable water bottle!)
  • Compostable containers at Picnic in the Park
  • Creation Care table at the Connections Fair

Volunteers are needed to help conference attendees find the correct bins for their waste, especially during lunch breaks. Contact mgrace@wocumc.org if you are interested. For more information on West Ohio’s Creation Care initiatives, click here.
