Generating a culture of growing younger congregations requires us to view our ministry with a new set of eyes. Pastors and church leaders are invited to Generate, a one-day event on Saturday, May 3, at Peace United Methodist Church in Pickerington. This is a time to learn from respected leaders in new church starts and innovative worship to cultivate fresh perspectives and ideas for ministries.
Featured presenters for Generate are Brian Schroeder, a worship leader and songwriter, and Rev. Tyler Sit, a new church start pastor whose ministry intersects with racial justice.
Rev. Tyler Sit is the founding pastor of New City Church, a church in Minneapolis that is led mostly by queer people of color. New City became the first 'built from scratch' church plant to charter in Minnesota United Methodism in decades and has since multiplied. Sit is a second-generation Chinese American, and he focuses his racial justice work into Intersect, a church planting network that he co-founded during the pandemic. Sit has been featured in the New York Times, the Atlantic, Minnesota Public Radio, and more. His undergraduate degree in communication studies comes from Boston University and also has an Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology. You can learn more about Tyler, his books, and ministries by visiting his website.
Brian Schroeder is a queer worship leader and songwriter in Minneapolis, MN. Throughout his 15 years in ministry, Brian has consulted with churches of all sizes to innovate in worship and communicate an expansive view of God. In 2024, he released his first worship album titled Creation, It Rings (available on CCLI, Convergence Music Project, and all streaming platforms), which includes congregation-tested, theologically-rich, and immensely singable songs written for inclusive churches. CreationItRings.com provides a number of resources to introduce these songs in church. Brian is currently serving as the Director of Emerging Worship and Design Strategy at Lord of Life Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Maple Grove, MN. He has a Master of Arts in Leadership & Innovation in Ministry from Luther Seminary. Tyler and Brian are married and live in Minneapolis, MN.
Generate will be a day of learning, laughing, and creating as these ministry innovators lead participants in sessions on How to Stay Awake, Revoicing Hymns, and How to Redesign Church, to name a few.
Cost to attend is $75 per person or $150 for a team of 3 leaders.
