MIV From Your Heart to Theirs: Delivering an Effective Sermon

Moving beyond the basics of public speaking and the foundations necessary for preparing an engaging sermon, this course also includes types of sermons – from exegetical to topical to children’s sermons – as well as how to find a story, use the hymnal, and how to move from communication on paper to beyond the paper.

This course is an Advanced Course and is different from the Called to Preach course which is a Core Course.  This course is for clergy or laity and is equivalent to 1 CEU.

This class will be covered in 3 sessions.  Two will be via zoom and one will be in person.  All three classes must be attended in order to receive a certificate.  

  • May 31 - 7-9 pm, via zoom
  • June 7 - 7-9 pm, via zoom
  • June 11 - 9am - noon, in person @ Piqua Greene Street UMC (415 W Greene St, Piqua)

Your teachers will be Rev. Kenneth Stewart and Lay Speaker Dan Vanoli.  They will have a syllabus for you ahead of time as there is homework before the class begins.

The cost is $15 for the class.  You will be responsible for purchasing your own book.. A link for purchasing the book will be provided for you in your confirmation email.
