Lay Servants serve the local church or charge in any way in which their witness, leadership, or service inspire other laity and clergy partners to a deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship. - Basic Course in Lay Servant Ministry | Rev. Mary Kay & Deb Dickerson
Core | There are a broad range of mission and ministry opportunities for laypeople in the UMC. The Basic Course lays the framework for understanding the UMC approach to leadership in mission and ministry. This course will equip participants to better lead and serve with others, not only in the church but also in the community and throughout the world. *This class will be held on Zoom. Friday: 7-9pm and Saturday: 9am-3:30pm* Register here.
- Called to Preach - From Pew to Pulpit | Rev. Warren Clifton
Core: Advanced | This course is designed for those who have not completed formal preaching training, for pastors seeking a basic refresher course, and for others who are called upon to preach in a pastor’s absence. Participants of this course will receive a scripture with their welcome letter. Over the course of the weekend, each participant will learn the steps needed and will create a sermon based on that scripture. Class Saturday 9am-4:30pm at Whitehouse Hope UMC. Register here.
- Discover Your Spiritual Gifts | Rev. Vernagaye Sullivan
Core: Advanced | This course helps participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual leader and will be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts. Class Saturday 9am-4:30pm at Maumee UMC. - Life in the UM Connection | Rev. Russ Tichenor
Core: Advanced | Why does the United Methodist Church do things the way it does? Why is our pastor being reassigned? Why don’t we get to vote on our new pastor? What are the rules – and why are they the rules? What happens at General Conference that may affect us? And what does any of this have to do with trying to be a place and a people that embody the Kingdom of God? This course will help church leaders answer questions, help newcomers to the UMC get their bearings, and help longtime members consider the specific structural challenges the church faces in the 21st Century.
