Lay Servants serve the local church or charge in any way in which their witness, leadership, or service inspire other laity and clergy partners to a deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship. From 6-9pm on Friday, April 26 AND 8am-4pm on Saturday, April 27. The classes being offered this Spring are listed below, click on the class name to register online for each class.
- Basic Course in Lay Servant Ministry
Led by: Rev. Mary Kay and Deb Dickerson
There are a broad range of mission and ministry opportunities for laypeople in the UMC. The Basic Course lays the framework for understanding the UMC approach to leadership in mission and ministry. This course will equipparticipants to better lead and serve with others, not only in the church but also in the community and throughout the world.
- Called To Preach
Led by: District Superintendent Rev. Scot Ocke
This course is designed for those who have not completed formal preaching training, for pastors seeking a basic refresher course, and for others who are called upon to preach in a pastor’s absence. The participants from this course may meet at a later date to present a sermon to the group.
- Devotional Life in the Wesleyan Tradition
Led by: Rev. H. Kearns
Structured around Wesley’s “means of grace,” this study covers, among other topics, prayer, Scripture, the Lord’s Supper, and fasting – major features in John Wesley’s devotional life. Participants will learn how they can apply Wesley’s ministry to their own life.
- Discover Your Spiritual Gifts
Led by: Barb Lane
This course focuses on acquiring a better understanding of the church and its ministry needs, learning what it means to be a minister; doing the work of Christ in the church and in the world; and being more fully equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts.
Leading In Worship- Cancelled

This course focuses on the ministry of the Lay Servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group or congregation in worship.
