Prayer is something we learn; it is something that can be taught. For many, however, the only teaching about prayer they ever receive is modeled in Sunday worship. As a Lay Speaker/ Servant/Leader you may find yourself the one leading prayer in worship services, as well as in other settings. It is vital then that you are knowledgeable and lead well. The primary objective for this course is to enable the participant to effectively prepare and lead various prayer forms, primarily in worship settings. Class is limited to 30 participants. An Advanced Lay Servant Class, it also serves as a required course for those seeking to be certified as a Lay Speaker. Approval of the participant’s pastor, as well as of the charge conference or church council, is also required for one to become an Advanced Lay Servant.
Remember to obtain and read the book "Shaping the Prayers of the People: The Art of Intercession by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher" prior to class, available at Cokesbury or Amazon. Please arrive by 6:30 PM on Friday and the class will end at 9:00 pm. Arrive Saturday at 8:30 AM and the class will end by 5:00 PM. This class will be taught by Rev. Matt VanWinkler and Rev.
