Advent Week 3 - Joy!

Zephaniah 3:14-20 3:14 Sing aloud, O daughter Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem!

Joy!  Just saying the word makes me feel better, brings a smile to my lips!

I have had some wonderful, deep philosophical discussions over the difference between joy and happy.  While not everyone agrees with me, I have come to believe that happiness is a response to an external condition or event.  Eating a really good piece of chocolate cake makes me happy.  Playing cards with my card group makes me happy.  Spending time with my daughters, sons-in-law, and grandkids makes me happy.  But happiness is fleeting.  It comes and goes with the external event.

Joy is internal.  It is a gift from the Holy Spirit.  Joy is not dependent on your surroundings. I have witnessed joy at a funeral and in the aftermath of a disaster.  Joy is always present even though it is more evident at certain times and under certain conditions.
