Nearly three months after Russia invaded Ukraine, the war shows no signs of ending peacefully. The official civilian death toll in Ukraine is over 3,300, with another 3,600 wounded, but actual numbers are likely much higher.
In the face of such destruction, UMCOR and The United Methodist Church are responding with compassion and determination. Grants for immediate relief have been given to United Methodist partners in Ukraine, as well as neighboring countries – Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Estonia, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic – to support those who remain in Ukraine as well as those fleeing the violence. Other grants to international partner organizations are providing transportation assistance, humanitarian supplies like food, water, clothing, shelter, and medication, as well as legal services and safe spaces for women, children, and those with disabilities. UMCOR has also funded the transport of medical supplies – $2.2 million of which was donated by OhioHealth – to hospitals in Ukraine.
UMCOR’s work in Ukraine is being funded by donations to Advance #982450, the International Disaster Response and Recovery fund. You can help by giving generously to this year’s Annual Conference Offering, which will support the UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery fund!
