The Shawnee Valley District will be taking a disaster recovery team to New Orleans, LA, in February of 2022, in response to the hurricanes of 2020-21.
The experience is open to anyone 18 and older who is willing to work hard – tool skills are helpful but not required. In addition to being a caring, Christian presence, the team will work on clean-up from wind damage, as well as mold remediation and debris removal. The cost of the trip is $250 per person, plus evening meals and incidentals. Participants may travel with the team, staying overnight at a church on the way down and back, or can fly or drive separately. The dates for the trip are February 3-10, 2022, with four days on the road (down and back) and three days working on site. Accommodations will be at a local church in the New Orleans area. A background check is required.
The team will follow all local COVID protocols; vaccinations are not required, but many local restaurants in New Orleans require proof of vaccination for entry. A non-refundable $50 deposit is due by January 3, and final payment must be made by January 24. Checks can be mailed to Shawnee Valley District UMC, 573 E Main Street, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
