Prayer Shawl Ministry Comforts Families

Each year, a memorial service is held during Annual Conference to remember the life and ministry of clergy and spouses of clergy who have served the United Methodist Church in West Ohio.

In a gesture of honor, the family members are gifted a prayer shawl.

A prayer shawl symbolizes the love of Christ holding these families as they grieve their loss. Each shawl created is prayed over before being given to the bereaved family.

This year, 29 prayer shawls were mailed to 20 wives, five husbands, three daughters and one son of deceased members in four states.

Thank you to the following churches and organizations for their contributions this year to the prayer shawl ministry: Capital Area South United Methodist Women, The Needle Crafters at Rolling Plains UMC in the Foothills District, Portage Christ UMC in the Maumee Watershed District, Busy Hands/Warm Hearts at Howard UMC in the Northwest Plains District, United Methodist Women at Richland UMC in the Foothills District and Scioto Ridge UMC in Capital Area South District.
