New Holland UMC Welcomes & Loves All People

The New Holland United Methodist Church, located in the corner of Pickaway and Fayette Counties, is turning 0’s into whole numbers. In 2018, the New Holland church received seven persons by profession of faith while baptizing two adults. New Holland was chosen as the 2018 Capitol Area South Light of the World award winner at this year’s West Ohio Annual Conference. Light of the World churches are outstanding in their commitment to shine the light of God’s love into their communities and reach new people for Christ.

New Holland, OH, is a small farming community, and the church averages about 40 people in worship on a Sunday morning. Worship is a blended service with traditional and contemporary elements for a congregation with a variety of ages and incomes. For a small church, New Holland is unique in its willingness to take risks, be alive in its faith and witness, and to welcome and love all kinds of people.

“My call is to help people grow in their commitment to Christ, His Word, and the church through their faith, relationships with one another, and their loving actions,” Pastor Brian Dunham remarks.

Last summer, New Holland UMC purchased a church bus, which picks up children who live in town for Sunday School every week. They have a summer lunch program that allows the church to connect with families by offering classes along with handing out food. An active youth groups meets weekly and reaches out to local nursing homes, and a recovery group called “Chain Breakers” gets together twice a month to help people overcome hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

New Holland UMC is also active on Facebook and live streams the sermon each Sunday. They have also increased hospitality by adding a restroom to the main level of the church and providing a social time between Sunday School and worship. To continue this trend, the church hopes to expand their children’s and small group ministries and strengthen connections in the community.

“Our dedication to Jesus…being alive in our faith…helps us to love others as Christ has loved and loves us,” Pastor Brian says.

Congratulations to New Holland UMC for being recognized as the 2018 Capitol Area South Light of the World congregation!
