Lakeview Christ United Methodist Church is a small congregation with 31 members located in Logan County, OH. For such a small church, they had 6 professions of faith and 2 baptisms in 2018, after having none the previous year. Lakeview was recognized as the 2018 Capitol Area North Light of the World award winner at this year’s West Ohio Annual Conference. Light of the World churches are outstanding in their commitment to shine the light of God’s love into their communities and reach new people for Christ.
The Lakeview community is a resort area near Indian Lake, comprised mainly of retirees, vacationers, lifelong residents, and those in great need financially and socially. Lakeview UMC is highly involved in caring for the concerns of its members and neighbors. This includes providing a food pantry, giving away school supplies to youth and children, and offering warm clothing during the winter months. The church also takes pride in responding to individual needs as they arise.
The church’s latest ministry is with the residents of a local nursing home, where church members visit and pray with people. Lakeview also hosts Sunday night concerts several times a year, a yearly pancake breakfast, and six-week Bible studies in the fall and spring. One of their most successful events was an open house that allowed the community to visit their historical building and see a large mural in the sanctuary that was painted by a local/regional artist.
“The people of Lakeview UMC are very hospitable with visitors and take the time to write thank you’s, get well messages, and make personal visits to those in need,” says Pastor David Moore, who is in his fifth year at the church.
Congratulations to Lakeview Christ UMC for being recognized as the 2018 Capitol Area North Light of the World congregation!
