After eight years as the Director of Camping & Retreats Ministry for the West Ohio Conference, Ken Overholser will retire on August 31, 2021.
After becoming the interim director in 2013, Ken realized his calling to a position that used both his skill set and his passion for children’s and youth ministry. “Thousands of children, youth, young adults and families have been impacted through Ken’s leadership,” says Dee Stickley-Miner, Director of Connectional Ministries. “Jesus became real at camp, and whenever that happens, others begin to experience who Jesus is, too. Because he said, 'yes' to God’s call to lead our camps and retreat ministry, the light of the Gospel shines brighter.”
In Ken’s time as director, camps and retreats began an effort to refocus on improving both the ministry and the facilities. Summer camp attendance has grown, as has the number of retreat groups, and the camp facilities are now used 11 months out of the year. “I’ve seen God work in bringing the right people to camps at the right time, and I am honored to have been part of that time,” Ken says. Prior to his time with West Ohio, Ken worked at Ginghamsburg UMC as youth ministry director and executive director of discipleship.
Ken and his wife, Suzie, live in Tipp City and have two grown sons and six grandchildren. Thank you, Ken, for your leadership and the ways you have shared the love of Jesus with the children and youth of the West Ohio Conference!
