Bishop Palmer repositions staff to serve needs of the church

Bishop Gregory V. Palmer has named Brad Aycock as director of Fresh Starts and New Beginnings. He has served on the conference staff for the last 5 years as the Director of New Church Development. This new role is intended to add to the training and resourcing needs of new and established churches.

In this new position, Aycock will staff the Missional Church Development Team. He will continue to lead our efforts in New Church Development and Fresh Expressions. He will design and offer contextual training and resourcing for established congregations and will continue to train and resource leaders in starting new faith communities and fresh expressions of church.

“I’m honored to continue to be part of helping our 1,000 churches by serving in this new role," Aycock said. “I look forward to listening to the needs, coming alongside our wonderful churches to assist, believing in Isaiah 43:19 that God is doing a new thing.” He will serve as a member of the conference Extended Cabinet.

“Friends, the times they are a - changin’ and the church must adapt in order to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world," said Palmer. “I believe every leader and church is in a unique position to elevate their ministry in this next season and I am convinced that Brad will be part of helping us reach that goal.”

Over the next month, church leaders should expect to learn more about new opportunities and experiences that will help congregations to become better equipped. The focuses will be to invest in adaptive leadership development; train and resource established churches to prepare for a post-pandemic world; offer training options to share best innovative ministry practices, models, experiments, and ideas; and start new faith communities and fresh expressions.
