Bishop Palmer Appeals for Relief Support for Oklahoma

Beloved in Christ Jesus:

On Sunday, some 24 tornadoes tore through five states—Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois—and destroyed 300 homes and claimed lives.

On Monday another tornado touched down in the city of Moore, Oklahoma, destroying two primary schools, a hospital, and an as yet untold number of homes in the town. Conflicting reports set the death toll at 21 or more, many children are among the lives claimed.

Even as the search for people is still underway and the damage is being assessed, we brace ourselves for the possibility of more of the same. Now we rally and do what we do. Put another way, we do what we do as United Methodist Christians and step up, as many of you have already done, with:

Your prayers.

They matter. Thank you. Don’t cease.

Your gifts.

Please  direct them to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) in one of the following ways:

  • Donate now with a credit card online through the West Ohio Conference.  Your donation will be directed to UMCOR.
  • Send a check made out to:

West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church
Attn: Council on Development
32 Wesley Boulevard
Worthington, Ohio 43085
(Please mark the memo line on your check with Advance #901670 US Disaster Response)

  • If you donate online at the UMCOR site, use UMCOR US Disaster Response Advance #901670

Your readiness to serve.

And when the folks on the ground say go, we are ready. Not before. Thanks.

I look forward to joining you in this important recovery effort that brings hope and healing. Be encouraged in Christ Jesus the source of our hope. I remain,

Your servant,

Gregory V. Palmer
Resident Bishop
