As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, more than 6 million refugees have fled Ukraine, and at least that many have moved from eastern Ukraine farther west to escape the violence. UMCOR funds are assisting local community shelters in southeastern and western Ukraine. UMCOR operational grants are supporting the efforts of United Methodists in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania to welcome and care for refugees, many of whom are women and children. Refugees are being accommodated in church buildings and in the private homes of church members. Churches in these neighboring countries have also organized shipments of needed supplies to Ukraine.
The United Methodist connection at its best encourages everyone along the way to give what they can. Prayers and gifts come from those next door and those far away; presence and service are offered by congregations and members now welcoming refugees. The whole church can give witness to what God can do even in the worst of times. All of UMCOR’s work in Ukraine is being funded by donations to Advance #982450, the International Disaster Response and Recovery Fund.
You can help by giving generously to this year’s Annual Conference Offering, which will support the UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery Fund!
