Local Pastors may perform proclamation of the Word, lead worship and liturgy, administer the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, as well as the services of marriage, burial, confirmation, and membership reception within and while appointed to a particular charge or extension ministry. (The UM Book of Discipline, par. 316)
Local Pastors' Licensing School for Summer 2020 will be offered ONLINE ONLY due to the social distancing needs imposed by COVID-19. In the past, the Licensing School required that assignments be completed prior to the school and then 80 hours of face to face contact in an Intensive Week together. We will host the Licensing School this year entirely online over the course of five weeks. The assignments will be given just prior to the start of the school and will be due weekly corresponding with the lessons for that week.
Participants are required to fully participate in the entire school to receive the recommendation for a license. This includes Seminary students and those with Seminary Degrees. We are asking for all to share equally in the work of equipping and developing leaders for local churches.
You are eligible to register and attend Licensing School if you meet the following pre-requisites:
Certified Candidate for Ministry (If not yet certified, contact your District Superintendent. If recommended for the July Candidacy Summit, one must be FULLY registered for the July Summit by the June 20 deadline or one will be ineligible to attend LIcensing School.)
Your District Superintendent agrees that you should attend this school.
The chair of your District committee should be aware that you are attending. (If not, please communicate with him/her first.)
Cost: $500.00 for students inside and outside of the West Ohio Conference.
Seminary Student Rate: $300.00, must participate in the entire Licensing School. We previously published this rate and will keep it for Seminary students and graduates only so that we do not cause any unexpected hardship by increasing the amount due at this time.
Registration Deadline: May 31 - Extended to June 7
Homework Deadline: Assignments will be due with each Module in the Online Licensing School for Summer 2020.
