Team Leader Opportunities

Toledo, Ohio

The Urban Mission Project is a community service opportunity for local and out-of-town youth groups to serve with Toledo home owners who are unable to perform light maintenance and upkeep on the exterior of their homes due to financial and/or physical limitations, or to perform service tasks within the Toledo community that benefit the community as a whole. The service groups perform the labor and work on relationship building with the home owners, community members, and within their own group. The project has improved the look of homes and gardens, as well as the pride of our neighbors. The project is looking for Site Managers (assess needs and coordinate teams on site); Disciples (liase between home owner and work groups); and Youth Groups (week-long mission experience). For more information, contact Wendy Jackson at 419-243-8284 or info [at] stpaulsumctoledo.com.

Cleveland, Ohio

Looking for a summer mission experience that's not too far from home? The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland aims to rebuild the lives and homes of the physically and fiscally challenged of Cleveland through volunteer mission groups that improve living environments in order to sow seeds of hope for individuals and neighborhoods. Potential projects include home construction and repair, gardening, painting, Vacation Bible School, yard work, and serving meals. Groups stay on-site in a converted church with heat/AC, bunk beds, gymnasium, showers, and a full kitchen. Cost for one week (June-August) is $250 per person, including lodging, meals, supplies, materials, and a t-shirt. For more information, or to register, visit the Nehemiah Mission website at http://nehemiahmission.org/.

New York-New Jersey

While much of the country has moved on from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy in October of 2012, much work remains to be done in the Greater New Jersey and New York Annual conferences. Both areas need volunteers to help those who don’t have the physical or financial capacity to recover on their own. For the latest information on volunteering, visit www.afuturewithhope.org/volunteer. Financial contributions can be made to The Advance at www.advancinghope.org, #901670.
