Music Director

Summit on 16th United Methodist Church, a progressive church, in Columbus, Ohio, seeks a music director to guide its diverse congregation in its weekly Sunday worship service. Summit is located near the Ohio State University.

The music director’s responsibility is to organize, coordinate, and lead worship music for Summit’s 10:30 am service on Sundays and special services throughout the year. The Sunday service is in a traditional format, yet also has blended, gospel, and modern music styles. You will work alongside the pastor to create and lead passionate worship, along with helping to lead and recruit a team of other musicians/vocalists, which includes a vocal choir. The choir is active from September to June. The primary proficiencies for this position are in the areas of conducting/directing, and playing piano (keyboard). You should have the ability to perform/lead a wide range of music. Other instrumental skills are an asset. A strong musical background is desired, as well as sight reading ability. You should have relational skills that welcome diverse persons and are conducive to team ministry.

This is a part-time position, estimated at approximately 12-16 hours per week. This includes weekly worship and rehearsal, regular communication with the pastor, in addition to time preparing for weekly worship.
