MAJOR OBJECTIVE: The Bookkeeper supports the financial activities of the church in a manner that is consistent with the organization’s mission and values.

QUALIFICATIONS: Expertise in Windows-based programs including Microsoft Office 360, familiarity and experience in small business bookkeeping, ability to deal with all types of people, flexibility, good time management skills, strong writing and communications skills.

SUPERVISOR: Senior Pastor

TIME COMMITMENT: 15 hours/week during church office hours

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain accurate financial records and reports.
1: Payroll
• Perform all payroll functions including biweekly pays and payroll reports including Worker’s Compensation, IRS, etc. Ensure that payroll checks are signed and delivered in a timely manner.

2: Banking
• Carry out banking duties including check preparation, account reconciliation, preparing and making regular deposits into the appropriate accounts and documenting withdrawals. Prepare bills for payment and checks for signature. Ensure that bills are paid on time.

3: General bookkeeping
• Perform general bookkeeping duties including recording all income, transfers and disbursements; maintaining accurate donor records and providing contribution statements; preparing financial reports for ministry teams, ensuring that all finances and financial records are kept securely and confidentially; preparing monthly financials, working with volunteers who count weekly offerings to maintain proper procedures, etc.
• Ensure the accuracy of all church financial records and contracts.

4: Staff Finance Committee and related ministry teams and committees as assigned
• Work collaboratively with the church treasurer, the Finance Committee and its chair, and others to ensure that the church maintains a strong financial position. Prepare regular and special reports. Staff Finance Committee meetings and participate as requested.
• Prepare expenditure reports for ministry teams and committees.

5: Donor recordkeeping
• Maintain accurate donor records and acknowledge contributions per church practice. Prepare regular contributions reports for members.
• Work with volunteers who count weekly offerings to ensure that proper procedures are followed and that accuracy is maintained.
