From 1975 to 1979, at least 2 million Cambodians died under the brutal reign of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime. Many of the nation’s young people were killed, leaving behind a vacuum of leadership. Today, about 70% of the population is younger than 35, and 50% is younger than 18. For the Methodist Mission in Cambodia, leadership development is absolutely vital, as many church leadership positions are already filled by youth. Ministry with youth and young adults is crucial to the development of the Methodist Mission in Cambodia, and a strong youth program is among the most important aspects of ministry in Cambodia today.
