Children's Ministry: What’s Next?
April 27 | 1:30-3 EST | Colocate Ministry Consulting
We are all asking how we better connect children to the church and more importantly to Jesus Christ during this pandemic and post pandemic era. As we live into the new normal, let's talk about what's next in Children's Ministry.
Suggested Book: Practical Family Ministry: A Collection of Ideas for Your Church by Timothy Paul Jones and John David Trentham
Presenters: Rev. Brent Dearnell, Rev. Matt Overman, and Michelle Shiparksi
About Brent:
Brent has served as a volunteer, interim, and full-time youth pastor, discipleship pastor, and executive pastor. Before going into ministry full-time he was a middle school teacher in an urban environment as well as a varsity soccer coach. He has directed a growing student ministry, experimented in a multisite church student ministry, facilitated a large after school program, developed leadership pathways, and led the local church to become a missional partner to area schools. Brent is passionate about helping young people live into their passion, faith, and call.
About Matt:
Matt grew up at Grand Lake UM Church in Celina, Ohio and is blessed to be in his 12th year of ministry as the children and family pastor. He graduated from Wright State with a Bachelors in Educations and a Masters of Divinity from United Theological Seminary and is an ordained Deacon. Matt serves as the conference camp team chairperson and is passionate about kids meeting up and falling in love with Jesus at camp, through inflatables, and other unique ways to reach out to the community.
He is married to his best friend, Beth, and they have four kids, Patrick, Charlie, Mark, Evelyn, and a 4 legged child & therapy dog, Tolin. His hobbies include working around the house, camping, karate, and playing games with his family.
About Michelle:
Michelle serves as the Children’s Discipleship Director at Church of the Saviour in Montgomery. Prior to this role she was the Children’s & Family Pastor at St. Marks UMC in Findlay. She has been actively involved in children's ministry in both paid & unpaid servant leadership roles for 26 years. In addition to serving at the local church, Michelle works with the conference as both a Family Ties traction track facilitator and as an MCCI strategy coach for children’s & family ministries. She is passionate about coming alongside families to train and equip them to live out their faith in their homes, schools, & communities.
Michelle is married to Steve, and together they have 3 adult children, Blake, Maddie, & Zoe. This past year they welcomed a new addition into their home, a sweet and cuddly pup named Wrigley.
