May 12 | 10:30-12 EST | West Ohio Innovative Expressions Team
Fresh Expressions have spread across West Ohio as people gather in breweries, art studios, nursing homes, gyms, golf courses, barns, and more. These innovative new expressions have empowered both laity and clergy to “go” into the world to make new disciples. During this Mini, this team will share from their various perspectives, offering steps for you to experiment with creative new ideas to reach your community via micro-communities, micro-campuses, and micro-gatherings.
Presenters: Rev. Ann Marie Carley, Julie Carter, Rev. Andrea Curry, Rev. Jonathan Kollman, Rev. Sam Peters, Rev. Jason Taylor
About Ann Marie:
As a UMC Deacon, Ann Marie's ministry focus is helping churches walk through sacred change. Most recently she has lived out this call by serving as the Executive Pastor at Trinity Chillicothe, launching a network of Fresh Expressions. When not working, she can be found cycling with her husband around Columbus, swimming or soaking up cuddles from their fur children.
Julie Carter is the Director of Outreach Ministries at Sylvania First. As a lay staff member she leads the Fresh Expressions movement as well as Missions, Innovation, and Digital Ministries. Her goal is encouraging and empowering people to reach beyond the walls of the church. Sylvania First’s mission statement “Building life-changing relationships through and with God” is where she spends most of her time. She lives by the motto - When joy is a habit, love is a reflex.
Rev. Andrea Curry is an ordained elder in the West Ohio Annual Conference. She currently serves as lead pastor at Trinity UMC in Bowling Green. Andrea is passionate about innovative missional ministry. She enjoys helping people discern their gifts and skills to share the good news of the Gospel. She believes the church is not just a building, but a group of Jesus followers who strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. In her spare time, Andrea loves adventuring to new places with her husband Will. She thinks he's the best travel partner. Andrea is a crazy plant lady who enjoys spending the summer on the back deck with her rambunctious beagle, Franklin and her sassy cat, Trudie.
Jonathan Kollmann is the Pastor of Connections and New Ministry Development at Anderson Hills UMC. Jonathan oversees a network of nine Fresh Expressions ministries that gather in breweries, art studios, American Legion Posts, assisted living centers, and homes. He also provides training and coaching as a Fresh Expression US Trainer and Field Guide. Jonathan earned his Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary; Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Xavier University and he is a former United States Air Force Chaplain (Major). Jonathan and his wife Kimberly live in Cincinnati with their two kids, Emily and Benjamin and dogs, Mookie and Maggie.
Sam Peters is a multi-vocational pastor/business owner/author who pastors Ironton First UMC in Lawrence County, Ohio. He is chef/owner of The Pastor’s Pantry Cooking School, a Fresh Expression of ministry that he and his wife Joyce have operated since 2015. His interests are cooking, painting, woodworking, fishing, and golf. He has authored several faith-based books and cookbooks. Sam and Joyce have five children and 9 grandchildren.
Jason Taylor is a United Theological Seminary student and licensed local pastor serving as the Fresh Expressions Pastor at Monfort Heights United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, OH. He is married to his awesome wife, Melinda, and they have two wonderful sons, Brooks and Declan.
