Building Community Partnerships

October 20 | 10:30-12 EST | Rev. Dee Stickley-Miner & Rev. Karen Cook

We all have something to offer. As we look outside of the walls of the church, there are organizations, businesses, agencies, institutions, and other churches working for the good of the community. Making a difference in our local communities can begin by coming alongside these organizations with mutuality and a common vision of a whole community.

Suggested Book:  Having Nothing, Possessing Everything by Michael Mather

About Dee:

Accompanying congregations and people as they live into God’s vision for them is a deep passion for Dee.  Building community rooted in God’s heart where people know they belong is her calling.  Seeing people and organizations partner together to achieve the dreams and aspirations of their neighbors brings her joy. Enjoying God’s creation through hiking and kayaking restores her spirit.  Dee is an ordained deacon whose secondary appointment is at the United Methodist Church for All People where she is always inspired to be a better follower of Jesus.

About Karen:

Rev. Cook has served as pastor of several Columbus-area United Methodist Churches, including St. Luke’s, Hilltop, Crossroads, and the UMC for All People. She is currently Assistant to the District Superintendent for the Capitol Area North District and Director of Community Ministries for the Capitol Area Districts. In addition to her leadership in the church, she has served as a workshop and retreat leader across the state.  Rev. Cook has also served on several conference committees, task forces, and Boards related to faith communities and nonprofit agencies.  She was elected to serve as a delegate to the 2016 & 2020 General and Jurisdictional conferences as well as 2019 Special General Conference.
