In the years following the Cold War, many young people in Russia turned to materialism to fill the emptiness in their lives. Others became addicted to drugs or alcohol, longing to simply numb their pain. At the same time, The United Methodist Church in Russia began reaching out to youth and children, offering them something more meaningful: a relationship with God. Today, United Methodist churches continue to provide opportunities for young people to gather for times of fellowship, worship, and study. Children’s camps and youth groups allow these young people to know they have not been forgotten – not by the Church, and not by God.
