Generous Giving
Truly God has blessed me this past year as the new Executive Director of the Council on Development.
It has been my honor and privilege to meet so many faithful servants, lay and clergy, in local churches.
Their passion for advancing the Kingdom has been and continues to be an inspiration.
During this time I have been learning the culture of
local churches and their ministry needs, with the intent
to listen, learn and resource where invited. As a result
a majority of my time has been invested in four key
Stewardship 101-Growing Generous Givers has been
presented in 21 local churches, six districts and in
partnership with the Conference Disciple Making
Churches team for their grant recipients. In addition
to an overview of current giving patterns and a
basic theological foundation for leadership, focus is
placed on assisting churches in development of an
intentional year-round stewardship strategy. Where

church to develop an intentional year-round planned
giving strategy. Part of the strategy includes laying
their foundation for an endowment to advance
the mission and vision of the church as a legacy to
the leaders who grew the church. This has been

the results is an ongoing process. Initiatives include

Clergy Leadership Formation.
Aiding churches to assess readiness for a capital
campaign, vetting vendors, interviewing firms and,
in some cases, helping to establish an alternative
strategy has been conducted in 20 churches. This
ensures churches are prepared to have the assets
necessary to fulfill God’s Vision for their mission.
Integral to all the work of the Council on Development
(COD) is the integration of a comprehensive
stewardship foundation. “Equipping local churches
to Grow Generous Stewards to advance the mission
and vision of the
West Ohio Conference
of The United
Methodist Church” is at the heart of our activities.
Creating a culture of holistic stewardship, growing
generous givers, philanthropic trends for significant
gifts (both outright and planned) and much more will
guide the path of the COD into the future. Toward this
end, a task force of the COD has met to review and
revise the mission, vision, strategies and organization
of the Council on Development. Plans to unveil this
revision are already in process.
I anticipate God’s Spirit “Unleashing Generous Giving”
in the months ahead. Please let us know how we can
be of service to you and your church. Thank you for
the opportunity!
