Currently, the
West
Ohio Conference
has
729 active participants in
various components of
the healthcare program.
As of December 31, 2011,
there are approximately
830 retiree policies on
the rolls of the
West
Ohio Conference
. In
2011, the current annual
cost for all pastors
for health insurance
is approximately $11
million.
In the recent economic
downturn, all but one
of the pension plans
were underfunded. To
date, the Ministerial
Pension Plan is
currently underfunded
by $1.3 million. The
generosity of our
donor base has fully
funded the pre-1982
pension plan for retired
clergy. The Council on
Development continues
to be committed to our
retired clergy by raising
the funds necessary for
the health care benefits
liability.
The Council on Development of the
West Ohio
Conference
of The United Methodist Church
was honored and extremely grateful to receive
an April 2011 distribution of $110,000 under the
Estate of William Earle Edwards. According to Mr.
Edward’s wishes the 2011 grant has been applied as
designated – toward the Ministers’ Retirement and
Healthcare Fund.
Since 1986, the Will of Mr. Edwards has provided an
annual grant which assist clergy retirees and their
families in the
West Ohio Conference
. These annual
grants now total over 3 million dollars. Truly the
retired clergy of the
West Ohio Conference
have
been blessed by the generosity of Mr. Edwards.
