Beloved in Christ Jesus:
On Sunday, some 24 tornadoes tore through five states—Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois—and destroyed 300 homes and claimed lives.
On Monday another tornado touched down in the city of Moore, Oklahoma, destroying two primary schools, a hospital, and an as yet untold number of homes in the town. Conflicting reports set the death toll at 21 or more, many children are among the lives claimed.

United Methodists have long advocated for just and humane immigration reform that includes a pathway to full citizenship with minimal obstacles so that the pathway can be open to all undocumented immigrants and so that the pathway can be effective, orderly, and humane. Rev. Thomas Rand has been appointed the new assistant to the Superintendent of the Maumee Watershed District by Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, effective July 1, 2013. Rev. Rand comes to the Maumee Watershed District from Concord United Methodist Church in Englewood.

The West, Texas disaster is among many in the news this week. The United Methodist Church in West, Texas has been directly affected by the fertilizer plant explosion, and surrounding churches are opening their doors to serve in cooperation with emergency management. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Kathleen Brown to serve as the West Ohio Conference Superintendent for the Capitol Area South District, effective July 1, 2013. Rev. Brown will follow Rev. Barbara Sholis, who will begin a new appointment as Assistant to the Bishop in July.
