I am totally disgusted at the practice of political endorsements becoming common practice from the pulpit and during the worship service. Last year it happened on a regular basis being told how to vote - not that "this is the UM view". It happened again this morning. I do NOT come to church to hear political endorsements. Last year I seriously considered finding another congregation because of this political stuff. Maybe it really is time.

This is the only way I found that I could send a response to something in the WOC Newsletter. You have an article on Grace UMC. Where in West Ohio is that Grace UMC? The article didn't tell us which Grace UMC that was.

Cygnet Faith UMC had over 45 children in VBS this past summer and it was the first time in years to have that many children. Because of the overwhelming response the church put on a VBS reunion around Advent time and had about 29 of the children back for the reunion. Many of the parents asked about a nursery and the church members took to it and have made a room in the basement for a nursery. We will be starting to advertise a nursery available on Sunday morning.

Harper UMC, Big Springs UMC and West Mansfield UMC are hosting our annual End of Summer Camp in August.(13, 14,15th) This is a wonderful and rewarding Mission project for our churches. Pre-k through High School kids come for a 3 day event of praise, worship, learning and fun in Christ, before heading back to school. Last year was our biggest year yet. We had over 100 campers. The price is $20 per camper. This includes 3 days of fun, 2 nights with accomindations and 3 meals a day, plus snacks. We rent out Camp Wesley, have a praise and worship band, classes for each age group, swimming, The Blob, Slip and Slide, canoeing, fishing, Outdoor movie night, night hikes and games, devotions and much more.

Scioto Ridge UMC, in the Capital Area South District, was challenged by the Church Council to give away the entire Christmas Eve offering for hunger in the Hilliard community. At each of the five Christmas Eve services people were handed a paper grocery bag and invited to return to worship during the month of January and bring their filled bag of food. By Sunday, February 7, the church had received around $24,000 in money and food items. The monetary donations ($16,000 alone) will go to aid the local food pantry and SON ministries which works in the area providing summer lunches for children and to address causes of hunger and poverty.

The confirmation class at Sugar Grove Church (N.W. Plains Dist.) researched Haiti and invited a local person who had done mission work in Haiti to speak to them about the the living standards, daily life, faith practices of the people of Haiti. The class then held a fundraiser luncheon that featured some Hatian style dishes and cultural pieces. The luncheon rasied over $500.00 that will be used to provide water filtration systems for the people of Hait. These filtration systems will provide pure water to over 550 people per day. We are also assembeling health kits.
