Shared today from a member of Christ Church Kettering: A mother was helping her young daughters build health kits for Haiti when one of the children asked if they could add a note to the kit saying that she was thinking of the people of Haiti and was sending God's love. The mom gently shared that the kits could only include items on a list. The daughter, then said, "I know what I can do." She opened the kit and blew a kiss into the bag. "I can send God's love through a kiss."

The Village Church, Toledo, a new church start, began weekly worship just three months ago. We received an offering for the UMCOR emergency relief efforts in Haiti totaling $785. From our inception, our value is to "Follow Jesus and Change the World." As the planting Pastor I am thankful that this young congregation is living out Jesus' value of compassion in our world.

The 94 members of West Liberty UMC "fasted" for a week before taking an offering in worship which topped $2,000 for Haiti. Everyone, from children to seniors, was invited to "fast" from something for one week and then bring the money saved from that "fasting" to place in the special offering. In addition, the church is working with other churches in West Liberty to build a mission team to go to Haiti later this year.

North Hampton Asbury UMC took up an offering of $464 for Haiti on January 17th for health kits. The Ladies of Asbury met for a soup supper to put them together the next evening. Monday while shopping for the health kit items God began to multiply our offering. As we filled two carts with items for 80 kits customers in the store realized what we were doing and started handing us more money. Before our shopping trip was over we had an additional $55 and then the ladies came in for supper bearing kits they had already made and more supplies. In the end we collected an even $600 and made up 108 health kits. We continue to receive offerings for UMCOR and Grace Children's Hospital that we have supported for some years now.

The churches I serve have shown how much they believe the words of Jesus that we are our brothers (and sisters) keepers. We took a collection at both churches last Sunday and today and I am so thankful for their responses. The people of Haiti have a special place in my heart ever since my trans-cultural trip there in 2004. The North Creek United Methodist Church, with an average attendance of 18, received an offering of $600 from the congregation. The United Methodist Women and Ad Board added another $200 respectfully for a total of $1000 to the Haiti Emergency appeal. The Continental Christ church, with an average attendance of around 44 people, collected $915 and the United Methodist Women added another $200 for a total of $1115 for the appeal. I am so proud to serve as their pastor and to know how generous and Spirit led they are. I have also been approached by several in the churches about a mission trip to Haiti to help out. May God continue to bless these fine people.
