Residents in the Norwood and St. Bernard areas of Cincinnati are still in need of assistance following the flash floods of August 28. On that day, 4.4 inches of rain fell in two hours, damaging 708 homes. Since no federal emergency was declared, all repairs and recovery will be completed using donations and volunteers. One place that was hit especially hard is the Hillcrest Elderly apartments, a senior living facility for anyone over age 62. A local non-profit... (read more)

Going to camp has always been the highlight of my summer. For as long as I can remember, I have set aside at least one week each summer, strengthening my relationship with God. I first came to Otterbein in 2005 with Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. As a camper, I remember the excitement of experiencing all that camp had... (read more)

“Has God ever called you to ministry and you have no idea what that ministry is supposed to be? That is where I was a year ago.”  Cynthia Defibaugh knew God was calling her to “step up” but just how and where was a great mystery. Cynthia discerned through prayer that God was nudging her to enroll in the West Ohio Conference Certified Lay Ministry Academy (CLMA).  She applied to enter the 2015-16 CLMA, and by her second class, with the guidance of the spiritual... I stood just outside of the garden and looked toward the city, tears running down my cheeks. Now anyone who knows me isn’t surprised to read that I was crying; they all know that any encounter with strong emotion, either my own or someone else’s, no matter where I am or how silly the situation, will cause my eyes to immediately and uncontrollably well up with tears. But these weren’t those kinds of tears; these weren’t the ones that I could open my eyes wide an... (read more)

A Jurisdictional Conference has several things it must do, among them the election and assignment of bishops. The decision on episcopal assignm... (read more)
